Built between 1909 and 1911 by the visionary architect Salvador Valeri i Pupurull, Casa Comalat was commissioned by Melcior Comalat, a wealthy businessman who wanted his apartment building to make a statement. What makes this building absolutely fascinating is that it presents two entirely different faces to the world, depending on which street you approach it from. The facade you're looking at now, facing the prestigious Avinguda Diagonal, showcases the more restrained, elegant side of Modernisme with its flowing lines, delicate stonework, and sophisticated bay windows that seem to undulate like waves frozen in stone.
